Buying guide

What makes a dog bed chew-resistant?

No fabric is indestructible. Chew resistance is a combination of fabric, stitching, and — most importantly — whether the warranty actually covers chewing.

The three things to check

1. Fabric

Ripstop is a woven fabric with a reinforcing grid that resists tearing. K9 Ballistics uses ballistic ripstop with a DWR coating and a waterproof backing on its Tough Ripstop line.

2. Construction

Hidden zippers and covered seams matter as much as fabric. K9's own page notes seams can be a fluid entry point — honest about a weak point.

3. Warranty terms

The test: does the warranty cover chewing? K9's 1-Year Chew Proof warranty does (brand terms). Many "chew-resistant" beds exclude chewing in the fine print — check before buying.

The honest position

Ripstop fabric plus a chew-specific warranty is a stronger signal than a "chew-proof" label with fine print that excludes chewing. And no warranty replaces supervision — the warranty is there for when prevention fails. See the chew-resistant picks.
